Researching sustainable textile systems through
colour, materials, and applied textile science
Industry collaboration and knowledge exchange
This area of my work focuses on collaborative research and knowledge exchange with industry partners, supporting the translation of academic research into practical and impactful outcomes. Through partnerships with manufacturers, technology providers, and sector organisations, I work to address real-world challenges in materials, colour, and sustainable textile production.
My experience includes working on Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) and applied research projects that embed research expertise within industry settings. These collaborations support innovation, skills development, and the adoption of evidence-based approaches across the textile and fashion sectors.

An article in Textiles magazine; a Textile Institute publication
This important initiative, part of the Waste Resources Action Plan (WRAP), promises to be a game changer for all areas of the textiles industry.
I am the lead academic at the University of Manchester for The UK Textiles Pact and am working hard with colleagues across the institution to change the face of the HE landscape in light of the climate emergency.
WEAVING TALES AND SPINNING YARNS
An article in Textiles magazine; a Textile Institute publication
This was written in collaboration with Dr John Parkinson of iinouiio, who specialise in reprocessing waste garments into 'new' yarns.
I am hoping that at some point I can do more work with www.iinouiio.com as what they do is fabulous!
